Alfred Ward and Francis Bertram created a bottling company on Wyatt Street near the Adelaide Brewery in 1884. Alfred Ward had been working in the brewing industry for a long period of time, firstly with the Walkerville Brewery and then the heading the bottling department of the Adelaide Aerated Waters and Brewing Company. Francis Bertram worked as a bottle merchant in the 1870's and 1880's, Alfred and Francis hired Robert McGowan from the Lion Bottling Company to assist in the bottling of Syme and Sison beers.
