Charles Henry Gray lived in Blinman after running the Northern Brewery in Stirling, just north of Port Augusta. A brewery
was setup to supply the North Blinman Hotel. Gray moved from the area in 1876 to start a brewery in Beltana, John
Cock is then recorded as brewing at the brewery supplying beer to Port Augusta as well as surrounding areas. The
North Blinman Hotel was owned by Mr William Roberto Barnes by 1872 and by the end of the decade, he was operating
the brewery as well. The brewery was rebuilt by Mr Barnes in 1889 from a wooden building to an extensive stone brewery.
The hotel was destroyed by fire in 1896, there is no reference to the brewery after 1892 but Mr Barnes moved from
Blinman after the hotel was destroyed, it is likely the brewery was closed when William moved. ![]() Northern Argus, 20th December 1872 ![]() Port Augusta Dispatch, 15th December 1877 ![]() Adelaide Observer, 10th July 1880 |
