John Auld from the Torrens Brewery moved to Gawler Town in 1846, after the destruction of the Torrens Brewery by a
flood in 1844. Mr Auld and his brother Thomas set to work building a brewery on Murray Street, in the centre of Gawler.
The brewery was leased to George Robertson in the 1840s and then to Henry and Alfred Snelling from the Gawler Town
Brewery. The Snelling Brothers declared insolvency in 1852, it is uncertain what happened to the brewery after that,
but the property was put up for sale in after John Auld's death in August 1860, and there was no mention of brewing
continuing at the site after John's death.![]() South Australian, 29th December 1848 ![]() Adelaide Observer, 7th January 1860 |
