Hermann George Appelt was a respected businessman and community figure in South Australia. Born in Germany, he emigrated to Australia with his parents as a child, and the family settled in Tanunda. Appelt joined his brother Willy Appelt in running a cordial factory and eventually became its manager, earning recognition for his leadership and business acumen. He was deeply involved in local community life, supporting sporting organisations and initiatives that promoted the development of the district, and was an active member of the Tanunda Band. In 1917, he married Holly Goers of Tanunda. Appelt passed away at his home in Nuriootpa at the age of 46, leaving behind a legacy of civic engagement and service to his community.
