Abraham Fordham, born in 1803, arrived in South Australia aboard the "Katherine Stewart Forbes" in 1837. He established Fordham's Hotel, later known as Sturt Arcade Hotel, in Grenfell Street, Adelaide (Town Acre 103) the same year and held its license until March 31st, 1842. Transitioning to wine and spirit merchant activities, he later ventured into the bottling trade and began manufacturing ginger beer. Fordham served as licensee of the Eagle on the Hill Hotel, located on Mt. Barker Road, Leawood Gardens, from August 22nd, 1853, until March 30th, 1864. He passed away in Mt. Barker on June 5th, 1864. |
