| Alfred Grubb, born on January 24, 1854, in London, England, migrated to Australia with his parents James and Ann Grubb in 1858, initially settling in Adelaide before moving to Brompton. After a period of seafaring travels, he returned to Adelaide in 1875 from New South Wales. He married Mary on April 9, 1878, at St. Paul's Church in Port Adelaide, listing his occupation as a "cordial maker." Together, they had ten children. Alfred likely worked for George Hall & Sons in Norwood as a cordial maker before purchasing property on Hall Street, Norwood, in 1879. By 1903, he expanded his operations to include aerated water production under the name "Alf Grubb & Sons" at Edward Street, Norwood. However, the partnership dissolved in 1906 following the death of his son George Etherington Grubb. Alfred Grubb passed away on July 25, 1914. Another son, Frederick Charles Grubb, initially worked for George Hall before relocating to Renmark in 1912 to join J. Hisgrove, eventually settling in Gladstone. |
