Ginger Beer Bottles

Louis Johnson, born in England in 1825, migrated to Australia in 1863 with his wife Elizabeth, arriving in Port Adelaide aboard the ship "Middlesex" on January 9, 1864. Also on board was Samuel Owen, a 19-year-old laborer from Radium, Wales.

Between 1869 and 1873, Johnson transitioned from a laborer to a shopkeeper in Currie St, Adelaide, eventually becoming a ginger beer brewer. During this time, he likely partnered with Owen, who had acquired property in the area.

In 1874, Owen purchased Henderson and Co's confectionery business, while Johnson's activities were not documented beyond 1873. Samuel Owen continued manufacturing aerated waters under his own name.
