The Co-Operative Mineral Waters Company Ltd was formed in 1898 on Angas Street, Adelaide, at the former Adelaide Aerated Waters and Brewing Company site. The company employed John Alexander Williams as the brewer of its Temperance Ales, including the flagship brand of Boshter Beer. Williams Brewers in Walkerville left their brewery in 1906, and the Co-Op leased the site from the Walkerville Co-Operative Brewing Co. in 1907. Boshter Beer quickly became the main Temperance Beer in the state winning many awards at the Adelaide Wine Show. The the popularity of the brewery was growing to a stage that the small Walkerville site was becoming too small, so the Macclesfield Brewery site in Kent Town was purchased and the brewery was named the Boshter Beer Company. The head brewer John Williams left the company in 1935 and set up his own company at the old Humphris & Sons site on Carrington Street, Adelaide. The new company continued to brew the Boshter Beer recipe, though it was named Genbos Beer as the Co-Op still owned the Boshter name, and the labels looked very similar to the Boshter labels. After John left the Co-Op, the quality of the drinks fell and the company went into liquidation in 1937, John purchased the company and moved his operations to the Kent Town site. Foureurs Co-Op in West Mitcham was put up for sale in 1950, and Williams purchased the site and moved their operations to the West Mitcham establishment. With the move, the brewery was renamed to William Co-Operative Beverages, though the Co-Operative was dropped in 1954. The company continued until 1975 when it was closed.
