In 1847, William Clark of the Halifax Street Brewery began preparations to establish a new brewery at Burra. Brewing equipment was manufactured and delivered to the site, and by December 1847 a deep well had been sunk in readiness for production. Despite these preparations, there is no surviving evidence that the brewery ever commenced operations.
