Yankalilla Brewery
| In 1862, Edward Dutton, formerly associated with the Noarlunga Brewery, established a new brewery in Yankalilla. The beer produced there quickly gained a strong reputation, and its growing popularity encouraged Dutton to expand his operations. By 1864, he had constructed a second brewery in Goolwa, successfully operating both breweries concurrently. During this period, John Edmonds was employed as the brewer at the Yankalilla brewery. Dutton continued to manage the two establishments until 1871, when the Yankalilla brewery was offered for sale. The brewery was subsequently taken over by Benjamin Pascoe, who had previously operated the Normanville Brewery, located just a few miles from Yankalilla. Pascoe continued brewing successfully for many years, remaining in operation until 1886, when he relocated to Port MacDonnell Bay. Following Pascoe’s departure, the brewery was purchased by Alfred Martin, who continued brewing at the site for approximately three years. Control of the brewery later passed to his brother, Edgar Martin, who carried on operations until 1892. The brewery was sold later that year, marking the end of brewing at the Yankalilla site.
