Rundle & Gow

n 1895 Joseph C. A. Rundle and John Gow started a company in partnership with the Johnstons brewery in Oakbank to purchase a patent in compressing aerated waters and beers. The new patent used compressed carbon dioxide to pressurize the liquids, this method was a lot easier then the method used at the time that involved dissolving acids to produce CO2. At this time Rundle and Gow also started to sell Johnstons ales and aerated waters in Adelaide, as well as becoming merchants to a large wine and spirit company. By 1896 the Johnstons partnership with Rundle and Gow was dissolved, so the company then went looking for new investors. The South Australian Brewing Company took interest in the pressurizing method, and plans were drawn up for Rundle and Gow to setup a bottling plant for SA Brewing, and become the sole bottlers for the company, but again the venture fell through, and by 1900 the partnership of Rundle and Gow was dissolved.
