Richard Mackey opened an aerated water and cordial factory on Beach Road in 1899, the company also started
bottling Wakerville beers. Richard ran into trouble several times for sly groging, the practice of selling beer without
telling the excise office, the beer was sold in unlabeled bottles. Richard died in 1925 and the company was sold and
renamed to Northern Bottlers Limited. The company started to bottle beer from other breweries including S A Brewing
and Jacka Bros. The company changed hands in 1934 and renamed though the new name did not stick for very long
and was renamed back to Northern Bottlers soon after. The company lost its liquor license in 1942 which closed the
