Sam Clayton opened a temperance Brewery in William Street, Melbourne in early 1914. After initial success he decided to branch out and open a brewery in Adelaide. Sam found several investors in L. O'Loughlin, H. V. Luff & W. Allen and a brewery was constructed on Waymouth Street, near the Light Square. Clayton temperance ales were also brewed under license at the Silver City Brewery in Broken Hill. The brewery only brewed Temperance ales and stouts, Cordials and essences, but this venture was short lived and the two breweries were closed by 1916. B.J.Knight & Sons from Port Pirie also sold their beers through their aerated waters factory.
