Daniel Cudmore was born in Tory Hill, Ireland in 1811, he emigrated to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) in the 1830's with his family. Mr. Cudmore left Van Diemen's Land in 1837 on the Cygnet heading for Adelaide. Upon arrival he built a reed hut on North Terrace, once his living arrangements had been finished he charted a boat to pick up the rest of his family who were still living in Van Diemen's Land. Mr. Cudmore constructed a brewery and malthouse on Melbourne Street, North Adelaide in 1845, after constructing the Hindmarsh Brewery. It is unknown if the brewery was vacant until James Hearn purchased the brewery in 1849. Mr James Hearn continued at the brewery into the early 1850's and even purchasing a second site in 12 miles from Adelaide in 1852. It is uncertain if James left for the new brewery but he sold the Melbourne Street Brewery in 1853 to Samuel Higgins and he continued until 1882.
