East Torrens Hotel Brewery

The Woodforde Arms Inn was constructed in 1840 by Mr. Robert Champlay but the hotel had several issues and suffered from licensing problems as well as several owners. The hotel finally closed in 1845 and was unlicensed until 1854 when Mr James Munro purchased the hotel and renamed it the East Torrens Hotel, as part of the name change was the construction of a brewery on site to supply the hotel with beer. Mr Munro fell on hard times in 1861 and tried to sell his hotel and cottage but there was no buyers and he eventually closed the hotel in 1863. The hotel was unlicensed for another year. It is unknown if the brewery was started up after the new owners took over the site. The hotel changed its name in 1910 to the Tower Hotel.
