MUNDULLA HOTEL

The town of Mundulla was gazetted in 1873. The first part of this building was constructed in the late 1870s by Barclay Wood and operated for several years as a general store and the local post office until 1882.

In 1884, the building was extended to its current form and became the Mundulla (sometimes spelt Mundalla) Hotel, which traded until 1912. After losing its licence, it was used as a boarding house and later again as a store.

By 1973, the building—then the oldest in Mundulla—was in poor condition. Following the town’s centenary celebrations, it was purchased in 1974 by the Tatiara branch of the National Trust, with help from the Bordertown Rotary Club, and restored as a local history museum. It also housed a restaurant in later years.

A small timber saddler’s shop was relocated to the site in 1984. The building was privately purchased and refurbished in 2003, and reopened as a licensed hotel.
