| Barossa Brewing Company was a small boutique brewery established in the Barossa Valley township of Greenock during the early 2000s. Located in the town’s historic nineteenth century wheat store, the brewery became part of the growing craft beer movement that emerged across regional South Australia during the period. The brewery should not be confused with the separate Barossa Valley Brewing operation based in Tanunda. The brewery was established by local brewer Darryl Trinne and focused on producing small batches of traditionally brewed beer using natural ingredients and classic brewing methods. Inspired by the German brewing heritage of the Barossa Valley, the brewery drew upon the Reinheitsgebot, or German Beer Purity Law of 1516, while also reflecting the district’s long association with quality food and beverage production. The brewery operated from the old Wheat Store building in Greenock, a structure dating from the 1860s that reflected the township’s agricultural origins. Greenock itself was established during the 1850s and became an important service centre for the surrounding farming district. The reuse of the historic grain storage building for brewing linked the modern craft brewery with the town’s rural and commercial history. Barossa Brewing Company produced a range of beers including Bunawunda Blonde, Victorville Ale, Wheat Store Hefeweizen, Greenock Dark Ale and Brunskill Stout. The beers were brewed in relatively small quantities and sold through the brewery tasting room, local hotels and selected outlets within the Barossa region. The nearby Greenock Tavern became closely associated with the brewery and regularly served the beers fresh on tap. The brewery was sold in 2015 and renamed to the Greenock Brewers. Many of the beers brewed by the Barossa Brewing Company are still brewed by the new owners.  |
