| 101 Brewery was a small modern craft brewery based within the historic Family Hotel in the centre of Port Pirie. Established during the late 2010s craft brewing revival in regional South Australia, the brewery became closely associated with “The Fam”, one of Port Pirie’s best-known heritage hotels. The Family Hotel was constructed in 1904 by local businessman Barrington J. Knight and quickly became one of the grandest hotels in Port Pirie. Built during the prosperous years of the town’s smelting and railway boom, the hotel occupied a prominent position on Ellen Street and became an important social and commercial meeting place for the district. Over time it gained recognition as both a heritage building and a local landmark. The Knight family had earlier connections to liquor trading and brewing in Port Pirie, while brewing activity in the town dated back to the nineteenth century with operations such as the Solomontown Brewery serving the rapidly growing industrial settlement. More than a century after the Family Hotel opened, the tradition of brewing on-site returned with the establishment of 101 Brewery. Operating as a brewpub, the brewery produced a small range of craft beers including pale ales, red ales, lagers, session ales and stouts.  |
