Bond Store Brewery was a small craft brewery established in the historic Bond Store building at Wallaroo on South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula. The brewery formed part of the wider revival of regional brewing across South Australia during the 2020s and drew heavily upon the maritime and commercial history of the Copper Triangle district.

The Bond Store building itself dated back to the nineteenth century and was originally constructed as a customs and bonded goods warehouse during Wallaroo’s boom years as a major copper export port. During the late 1800s Wallaroo became one of South Australia’s busiest regional ports, serving the rich copper mining districts around Kadina and Moonta. Ships regularly carried copper ore and refined copper from the Wallaroo jetty to overseas markets, while imported goods were stored within bonded warehouses near the waterfront.

Over time the former bond store became one of Wallaroo’s best-known heritage buildings and an important reminder of the town’s maritime and industrial past. The adaptive reuse of the building as a brewery and hospitality venue linked the modern craft beer industry with the region’s nineteenth century commercial history.

Bond Store Brewery operated as both a brewery and restaurant venue, producing a range of small-batch craft beers inspired by the coastal environment and local history of the Yorke Peninsula. Beer styles included pale ales, lagers, darker ales and seasonal releases, many named in reference to the district’s mining and maritime heritage. The brewery also became a popular destination for tourists visiting the Copper Coast region.

Like many regional South Australian breweries established during the craft beer boom, Bond Store Brewery has relied heavily on tourism, hospitality and direct sales through its venue. The brewery has contributed to the growing reputation of the Yorke Peninsula as a food, beverage and heritage tourism destination while helping reintroduce local brewing to an area historically more closely associated with mining and agriculture.

Although relatively small in scale, Bond Store Brewery has formed an important part of the continuing revival of independent brewing in regional South Australia and demonstrated the increasing use of historic buildings as modern brewery and hospitality venues.
