| Shifty Lizard Brewing Co. was founded in 2017 by Leigh Stone and Danny Strapps. The name Shifty Lizard originated from Leigh Stone’s Call of Duty username, which he later adopted as the brewery’s identity. Prior to establishing the brewery, Leigh spent time living in the United Kingdom, where he worked in the drink-dispensing industry, fitting bars and clubs for major brewing companies. This experience proved valuable in shaping the brewery’s early direction. The company initially produced beer in 100-litre batches, available on tap only. Later in 2017, production was scaled up when Shifty Lizard beer began being contract-brewed at Vale Brewing in Willunga. Bottled and canned releases followed by the end of that year, allowing the brand to reach a wider audience. By 2018, Shifty Lizard had established a small taproom in Willunga, and shortly thereafter installed its own brewery behind the cellar door. From this point, all beer was brewed onsite, marking an important step in the company’s independence and growth. In 2022, Leigh Stone expanded the business by opening a licensed venue in Adelaide called Hard Days Night, where Shifty Lizard beers were featured prominently. Further expansion followed in 2025 with the acquisition of Port Burger in Port Noarlunga. However, the rapid growth placed considerable strain on the business and its founder. By September 2025, Leigh made the difficult decision to close both venues, along with the brewery. Believing the brand still had a future, a former employee purchase the brewery. Their efforts paid off, and in November 2025, Shifty Lizard Brewing Co. reopened. ![]() ![]() |
