|Knappstein's Enterprise Brewery in the township of Clare, at the historic old brewery just off the main street. The original Enterprise Brewery was built in 1858, brewing at the site ceased in 1917. The build was then used as a softdrink factory and later a winery operated by the Knappstein family.
The in 2006 a microbrewery was constructed onsite, by the Malt Shovel Brewery owned by Lion Nathan, with their first beer Knappstein Reserve Lager brewed and bottle in September 2006. This new brand was meant to be an up market lager to compete with Carlton's Crown Lager. The beer was available nation wide and was a popular inclusion to Lions beer portfolio.
The beers popularity waned over the next decade, and when head brewer Mel Fettke left the brewery to follow his interest in wine making, Lion closed the brewery, and Knappsteins beer was disconninued.
