William Evans constructed a brewery in 1868 under the direction of Charles Henry Gray, the new brewery was know as the Flinders Brewery and produced 30 hogs heads a week. Charles left the brewery in 1869 to brew in Blinman, the brewery was then leased by Isaiah Reid from the Morphett Street Brewery in Adelaide. With the change of ownership came a change in name, the brewery would now be known as the Stone Brewery and traded as Isaiah Reid & Co.

Isaiah took on a business partner in Henry Hilton, they expanded the brewery and built the brewery brand, making the brewery the largest northern brewery in the state. Mr Reid died in 1876, Henry took on a business partner named William Terdrew Perrers, and again renamed the brewery to the more simplistic Port Augusta Brewery. Hilton sold his portion of the brewery to Perrers in 1879, and over the next three years William had several business partners, until 1881 when William took on the business partner John Baker. The brewery was also making aerated waters and cordials as well as distilling.

In 1888 Baker and Perrers partnership was dissolved, with William managing the brewery alone. The brewery was sold off to the South Australian Brewing Company Ltd in 1893, and brewing ceased in 1898. The brewery would now act as a distribution depot for the northern towns as well as making aerated waters and cordials. The South Australian Brewing Company sold off the Port Augusta Brewery in 1853, with a new company named the Crystal Cordial Company continuing the cordial brands being made at the site. The company closed in 1968 with the Spencer Gulf Bottling Company moving into the site, the new business bottled Coke and other branded drinks.
