| William Goodier was born in Lancashire, England, and spent almost eight decades of his life in South Australia. He emigrated aboard the Romalee, arriving in March 1849, when the colony was still young. In 1865 he married Elizabeth Jones at Christ Church, North Adelaide, and they made their home in the western suburbs. Goodier built his career in the brewing industry. For many years he operated the Glanville Brewery, having previously served as manager for brewer W. Knapman of Port Adelaide. Quiet and private by nature, he avoided public life and was known instead for his steady work and family commitments. The second son of John Goodier of Burton, he lived to the age of 82, remembered as one of the early settlers who helped shape South Australia’s commercial life. ![]() |
