W.C Buik & Co


William Christie Buik was born in Dundee, Scotland, on May 3, 1824. He arrived in Adelaide aboard the "Coromandel" in April 1849 as a representative and partner of R. Whyte & Co. He later established his own business as an ironmonger and importer on Rundle Street, Adelaide, where he introduced promotional stoneware products like ginger beer bottles. Buik actively participated in public affairs, serving as a councillor, Mayor of Kensington, Mayor of Adelaide, and a member of the Legislative Council. He was also involved in various civic and charitable organizations, and he passed away at his residence, "Rosemont," on February 6, 1903..
