The Pavy brothers (James, Philip, William and Benjamin) setup a brewery and malting house just out of Gloucester in the McLaren Vale region. The brothers partnership was dissolved in 1857 leaving James and William to continue the brewery. William left the brewery during the 1860's leaving James to continue alone, and due to water supply problems James closed the brewery in 1867. James Pavy died in April 1867 from Typhoid. Today the old brewery site is a winery and the hill where the brewery was built is now named Brewery Hill. |
