Elders & Phibbs

On March 22, 1856, Charles Phibbs partnered with William Elder at his ginger beer and aerated water factory. Elder had previously been in partnership with Robert Haswell since August 1854, when they acquired Spence and Parr's soda water factory in Flinders Street, Adelaide. Phibbs, who had worked for Spence and Parr until 1853-54, joined the venture. Born in 1819 in Blackwood, Galway, Ireland, Phibbs arrived in Adelaide in 1850. The partnership operated until 1858, utilizing a property described as a house and store on Town Acre 274. Following Phibbs' departure for Victoria in 1859-1860, he established an aerated water factory in Albury.
