W.S. Billin, born in Middlesex in 1841, arrived in Adelaide in 1849. In 1865, he took over Charles Tanner's ginger beer factory in Grey Street. He was joined by Albert James Wight in 1869, forming Billin & Wight. They operated in Flinders Street until 1881 when they moved to Angas Street. In 1883, they sold the business to Adelaide Aerated Waters & Brewing Co. Ltd. Billin retired and died in 1896, while Wight remained involved until 1884-1885, later becoming a licensee of the Plough and Harrow Hotel until 1897. He died in 1915.
