James Monro, born in Scotland in 1796, arrived in Adelaide in 1839. Initially, he pursued various occupations from grocer to wine importer. In 1868, he began manufacturing aerated waters in Port Adelaide, later operating from St. Vincent's Street. His son, Thomas Jones Monro, also ventured into business, with branches in Gawler, Kapunda, and Calbowie. However, upon Thomas's death in 1879, all operations ceased. James Monro sold his Port Adelaide business in 1879 and passed away in 1885.
