Charles Tanner, arriving in SA in 1840, continued his family's coaching legacy and managed Cobb & Co. By 1846, he operated a livery and bait stables in Hindley Street, Adelaide. In 1851, he became Publican of the 'Black Swan' Hotel on North Terrace but faced insolvency in 1852. He briefly resided on Town Acre 7 until 1855. Transitioning to ginger beer brewing on Flinders Street in 1856, he ceased this venture by 1865. Tanner managed the 'Norfolk Arms' Hotel until his passing in January 1869.
